Sanjaya, American Idol

The first time I heard about Sanjaya was when I read my friend Sarah joined an Internet group to vote him off. I didn't even care to find out what that group was about. But since then I hear his name almost everywhere. So who is this Sanjaya and why is he being in such a love hate relationship ? I tried to do a little research and this is what I discovered is, he may not have the best voice but he surely realizes that being an underdog has its advantage and all over the world people love to see an underdog winning, on top of that he believes he is good and knows what click's with people. The 3 key ingredients to be a celebrity. Look at his hair style, ability to stand up against odds and you have a celebrity. In fact his last hairdo was outrageous but this was certainly a very smart move by Sanjaya. I can't comment how far will he go in the Idol race since he has already beaten all the odds. He is already a celebrity now and winning won't do anything extra now other than sending Simon off the show. A star is already born and I won't be surprised if this inspires countless more documentaries.

Shizuka leaving

Dear Sumant,

Yesterday was the going away party for Shizuka. She lived here for a year with Sarah. It was an emotional day and I hope once Shizuka leaves for Japan on Saturday, Sarah copes well. Other than that I am still in my office working on homework for Fourier. Its almost 4 am and I need to drive back home to catch some sleep.

Woolmer's Death

Dear Sumant,

India made exit from the world cup today after Bangladesh beat Bermuda. It wasn't a surprise. I am still wondering why they are taking so long to come out with the murderer of Bob Woolmer. My initial premonition of him being murdered were confirmed the very next day and my blog received more than 100 hits on my speculation.

Bob Woolmer Dies

Pakistan's coach Bob Woolmer died after Pakistan's exit from the world cup. Woolmer who been coaching Pakistan's cricket team for quite sometime was unfortunately not getting along with the team. I hope I am wrong but its very likely that he is killed by some angry Muslim not happy with a kaffir coach. This is certainly going to be a big news in the coming week and could have a snowballing effect into Pakistan's relationship with rest of the world. It's equivalent to Daniel Pearl's and Theo Van Gogh's death which were also done by irate Muslims. They better be ready with explanation this time because we the rest of the world cannot tolerate this medieval, barbaric way of killing for people who don't adhere to Muslim faith.

Little grand canyon, Metropolis, Whaler's Catch and Spider man

Dear Sumant,

Yesterday I went to Metropolis the home of Superman. Its a small town on the way to Paduccah. I went there with Ehlmer, Mohan ji, Navendu and Roy. The main attraction there is a Superman Statue which is some 16 feet high. Funny there is a taller statue of "Big Joe" at the local super market. The other thing is a museum of superman. Which sells and displays a lot of superman memorabilia. There is one Fort Massac which looks pretty small from outside. In fact the toilet besides the fort looks bigger. However that shouldn't despair you from visiting this magnificent wooden fort. Which is 2 storey high and even has a moat. The tall wooden gate may remind you of King Kong movie. After that we went to whaler's catch restaurant in downtown paduccah. They don't have an explicit vegetarian menu except for the appetizer called vegetable medley. Me and Navendu settled for it along with baked potato, fried okra and warm bread. I been to that restaurant before on Sarah's birthday. Then we spend time at the banks of river Ohio watching the ships and people. No trip to paduccah is complete without savouring the ice cream from the ice cream factory. I went for the coffee and one another scoop.
Today I went on a 3 mile hike with Mary to Little grand canyon. Its pretty close to Carbondale and goes through some of the most beautiful landscapes in southern Illinois. I didn't take my camera but believe me these were some of the magnificent landscape one can see. Its one of the best hike I did in a long time.

Math video lectures from Houston

Here is one more awesome site dealing with math lecture from the university of Houston. I like it because its not impromptu. The lecture has carefully chosen neat examples and illustrations and they are not too long.

Traipse for today

Dear Sumant,

Right now I have an unbelievably tight schedule. Today Udita left for Sri Lanka. His father died because of kidney failure. I spent most of the evening doing questions from Fourier Analysis and I am about to go home after updating this blog. I have to work tomorrow in the morning at office from 9:30 to 12:30. Meanwhile today might be the second day when most of my diet was just fruits. At the last count I had eaten 5 bananas, 2 pears, 4 tomatoes, half onion and couple of apples. I played badminton last Friday and was hitting really well and that too with my red prince racket, which I thought was too heavy ! My white Prince racket I think has been shipped to Maryland to get strung.
