Good time studying

Dear Sumant,

I am right now in Faner lab. I had a good time studying Fourier analysis. Did lots of problems and now I am ready to go home.

Bye and regards

Update

Dear Sumant,

The unusual spell of chili winter has ended. It was the first time in past 4 years that February was this cold here. I have watched few movies in between, including "Six days seven night" and learning quite a few things. Algebra continues to fascinate me. As you know the semester is busy, so I would stop right here.

Bye and best regards

Vine Community Church

Dear Sumant,

Well you know that how I crave for new experiences and I wonder if I am taking it to extreme ? I recently got the idea of converting to Christianity after seeing several baptism. In my quest to explore Christianity I have been regularly attending service, small groups and taking notes on bible. I see people around talking about holy spirit and how their life has changed, though its hard for me to have them as role model. The basic notion of "I am a sinner and I am living a sinful life" is the premise of whole Christianity. There are lots of good teaching in bible like most other holy books and there are many contentious issue which are usually overlooked. The thing which bedazzle me is in spite of that they insist on that this is the word of god and the whole bible is to be treated as it is, it's funny that I am forking this issue. It's just a belief system and one is free to choose to believe in whatever one desires and that's what they are doing. I am for things which make you a better person and give peace of mind. Any religion that brings people together for a good cause and promote harmony is a good thing. I sincerely believe that prayer has lot of power and it does bring result. There are two types of people I have found one who are into this one without having worldly experience especially people like Matt and Briana there are other who are into this because they feel they really messed up big time like Rebekkah. Christianity does promote lot of selfless help and that is one thing which is a main draw to me. May be I will just convert to find out ?

How to prove it

Dear Sumant,

Today I made spicy Rajmah. In the afternoon Udita and I went out to grocery shopping. Yesterday I went to Barnes and Noble and browsed through two books. One was on "Codes" ie history of Cryptography and the other one was on Golden Ratio. I would like to read the Simon Singh's book before I take the class on Graph Theory this summer. I am these days reading with interest the book "How to Prove it". by Daniel J. Velleman . It's one of the best book on proof writing.

Portico and Portcochere

Dear Sumant,

The temperature around here now is in negatives for now past two weeks. That means I cannot ride bicycle, I either have to use bus or drive my car. Today I took a bus which went around and around the Carbondale area. I recently learned the word Portico and Portcochere. While "Portico" means the extended entrance with columns. The "Portochere" is like a covered drive through where people get down to enter into the building. It was funny to observe that so many houses here have Portico and there were some with Portcochere too.

Things are moving fast in my math classes. In measure theory I need to put more effort. Its a beautiful class and I am sure I will be a much better mathematician after this semester and that what gets my adrenalin rushing. I haven't been playing badminton for so long and I am thinking of going there tonight.

That's for now this Friday morning

Wiccan society at Southern illinois

Dear Sumant,

I finally understood the relation between well ordering principle and the principle of mathematical induction. It is one of those precious feeling you have when things make sense. I wrote about this few days back but I still didn't had that feeling of aha.. I really got it. Today I spent the time going over the Fourier Calculus. There were lots of proof which I had skipped and today when I went over them I could prove all of then. I got my paycheck and payed Udita for the rent. I took time to visit the wiccan society at interfaith center and met some nice people there. I am looking for people who are into meditation like me. Most of the member three are into Reiki and other alternative healing . The group is chaired by Tara and she read the schedule and it seems interesting and she also referred to me to Bob Tiffin for the meditation society. So I am excited to see how things unfold.

New Books

Dear Sumant,

I just received two new books to supplement my analysis reading. These include "Analysis With and Introduction to Proof" and "Resources for the Study of Real Analysis". Yesterday I came across one really nice book "Radical Approach to Real Analysis". This was the book I been looking for a long time. It's the only book which begins with the Fourier's earth shattering series and delve into ex planing what happened because of his heat equation, which most of us learn in first course in differential equation and boundary value problem. It is very exciting to read and today I spend a good part of that book reading in my spare time. The "Analysis With and Introduction to Proof" is one another gem in tons of books on real analysis. It's suited for the first and second course in real analysis and a good review when you embark on measure theory. So I had to order it back from the library.
So far today has been exciting I studied some measure theory with Reza and now I plan to finish off the homework in Fourier Series. I am feeling hungry and so far I have eaten only non cooked food including : 2 carrots, 1 grape fruit, 2 apples and grapes. So I better hurry home eat something and come back for tutoring job which starts at 19 hrs.

Forgetting Backpack

Dear Sumant,

Last Wednesday an amazing thing happened, after I reached my class I discovered that I am not carrying my backpack. It was hilarious. The reason was I was wearing a 10 pound jacket and there were only 10 minutes to reach to class and so I forgot. I have got lots of book from the library and some of them I been renewing for now almost more than a year. I got these books in the first place by searching on amazon and various libraries on ilnet. I usually used them as reference but recently my appetite to finish has increased manifolds. I am reading like crazy and which is a good sign. Three books which I plan to finish are Keith Devlin's Sets, Function and Logic, Ravi Vakil's Mathematical Mosaic and Peter J Eccles's An Introduction to Mathematical Reasoning. The other side books I am reading are Dr' Euler's Fabulous Formula, When Least is best, The imaginary tale and few other books on different topics. It's an amazing feeling that I am able to read with pleasure these wonderful books. I think I have grown mathematically mature after analysis and linear algebra, abstract algebra and discreet mathematics. Because I very vividly remember when I first saw Eccles's book I was uncomfortable with many topics which now when I browse now seem interesting because I have encountered them in some of the above classes. I really cannot tell you that how happy I feel learning this stuff. It makes you realize that how many wonderful things people discovered and there is always this Aha effect whenever one sees a good proof. Like yesterday for the first time I discovered the proof that "Principle of Mathematical Induction" and "Well Ordering principle" are related and one can be derived from the other. I been doing mathematical induction since my high school days but never knew this connection. Well I got to know well ordering in only when I took Math 452.

That's for now
Enjoy your Sunday
